Putting this here because I decided to join ravelry.com, but it apparently takes like a week to get accepted. Btw, any lj friends on there? I'll need friends when my account finally goes through. XD
So! It is time for me to start a new knitting project, now that I finally finished my scarf. The thing is, even though I've technically been knitting for four or five years now, I'd still actually consider myself a novice. I've only done scarves, and only one of those (the most recent one) would I consider wearable. I have only done one non-scarf project, a baby blanket I made for my coworker. It was my first ever project that was not straight basic knittins stitches straight across, and the first time I'd used yarn over or knit together stitches. It turned out pretty good (I felt proud of myself when it had such a pretty, lacey edge), if a little stretched out and therefore lopsided, but my coworker still talks about it.
My cousin is going to be having her second child in four or five months, and I'd really like to knit her a blanket. I considered doing the same kind I'd done last time, but I'd really like to expand (even though I'm nervous about experimenting with my skills for something that is meant to be a gift). I'm actually shooting a little high, and I'm nervous about it. I've never used real a pattern before, but I've found one I really want to try. This is what I'd like to make: www.knitpicks.com/Sheldon+Baby+Blanket+P attern_PD50626220.html It's more complicated than anything I've done before, but with Allison's help, I think I can pull it off. I just can't decide on colors, because I don't know if I really want to make it a mess of pink and purple just because it's a girl. Allison is goin to go with me to look at yarn, and hopefully I can start sometime this week. plus, the pocket is just too cute to pass up.
This was a close second though, but the hood seemed a little more complicated than I'm capable of at the moment, plus this is a gift and I'd rather not screw it up completely: thriftyknitter.com/ Maybe another time.
Tonight I'm seeing Aida the opera at the Touhill! I'm SUPER excited. I saw Aida in Vienna when I was studying abroad in Austria, and it was amazing. Of course that was in like the official beautiful Veinna opera house, so I had to buy standing-room-only student tickets (which were only like 5 euros, which was SUPER awesome considering the tickets to that place were more like 150. That week in Vienna I also saw Tosca and The Flying Dutchman for about the same price, all standing). So I was WAY up in the topmost level standing for how many long hours, but itw as totally worth it. I'm looking forward to getting to enjoy Aida for the second time sitting down. XD Yay!
