So the four year-old kid I was babysitting tonight looked at me while we were playing computer games and said very pointedly "You have big boobies." That was interesting. XD
Either way, so my first week of work is over. And the main word I can describe it as is exhausting. XD This week I've been going to bed long before midnight (usually around 11) and absolutely conking out completely. Like out cold. Except today I tried to sleep in until 10am and ended up waking up at 7:30... and only managed to fall asleep again until about 8:45 when I got up, got my allergy shot, and then went into work (on a SATURDAY, for the love of God). At work, I helped set up new rooms, and cut out paper and threw things out, and helped paint a WHOLE ROOM. yay. I felt accomplished. Then I took a nap. XD
So work? Work is crazy. Work is rewarding and drives me crazy at the same time. The kids can be precious. One of them cried when I left work yesterday, and another cried so much when I tried to go to the other room with my regular kids that I had to take him *with* me for tbe rest of the afternoon back to my room. So at least the kids like me. We play, we sing songs, we explore the world, and life is good. But then there's the absolute choas of "sharing" and of mealtimes adn diaper changes and fights. So naptime is the best time ever where I can sit down, the lights off, listening to the nap music, and just... close my eyes and breathe.
Not all of my week has been spent in the classroom. Tuesday I did a 3 hour class in the building where me and the new teachers did some teaching exercises, talked about how we are NOT childcare givers but TEACHERS even if we are with the infant/toddlers. The first three years of life are the most impressionable and important in a kid's learning experience, and we have to make sure that they're exercising their brain in cognitive learning and literacy and everything, etc etc. We also talked about the latest brain research going on at Washington University. We have another class on next Tuesday.
Anyway, the job is hard, but I do like it. A lot. We'll be getting some new kids in a week or two, which is going to be CRAZY. But I'm definitely happy.
